A Bit of Club History: Part I

Our Club has a very interesting history -

It all started in 1922 by members of the Los Angeles Athletic Club (our sister club to this day). California Yacht Club was situated in Wilmington Harbor and our members enjoyed many successful races and were foremost in yacht building for the day.

The walls and display cases here at CYC show a wealth of history of Yachtsmanship that rivals any on the west coast. One of the grandest trophies is our King of Spain trophy brought to the club circa 1929 when King Alfonzo XIII brought it himself, as he was a formidable Yachtsman in his own right.

When the United States officially entered World War II, after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, the Coast Guard took over the club house. So, how did we end up in Marina del Rey?

You will have to tune in next week to find out!
